PROUD NEW PARENTS

It's been a rough nesting season for the Norfolk Botanical Garden eagles. Their first clutch was unsuccessful and their second clutch was broken by owls. However, their second clutch was not complete at the time of the owl intrusion and a couple of days later, a third egg was laid!

Can you see the fluffy little head?

Dad feeding his one lone chick. Eagles' nests are quite large and deep, so it is hard to see the eaglets when they are tiny. It won't be long, however, until we are able to get a good look.

More proud parents - the Sea Eagles in Norway have two eaglets!

One head...

...two heads! In case you can't see them, they are in the bottom left hand corner. Find the adult's beak and look a little bit down and to the right of the beak. ;)

GREAT HORNED OWLS

The CSUB owlets are about 6.5 weeks old. Here they are sitting with Mom (she is the one on the ledge). Apparently something (or someone) has peaked their interest.

The Colorado owlets are also about 6.5 weeks old. It's getting hard to get a decent picture of them these days as they are quite large now. They also tend to wander to the edge of the nest to perch, putting them out of camera range.

ALL BUT ONE

Frida and Diego have had 6 out of 7 eggs hatch.

Mom and Dad defintely have their hands - or shall I say wings - full.

GETTING BIGGER

Even though this owlet looks like he just hatched...

...you can see that the others are slowly getting bigger. Since she had 7 eggs, there are still eggs left to hatch.

Hanging out under Mom's wing.

Spreading our wings for the very first time!

MORE FALCON FLUFFS

On April 21st, in the Cobb Island Nest in Virginia, there were signs that the Peregrine Falcon's eggs had started to hatch.

April 25th was the first day I was able to catch sight of the chicks.

This nest had 4 eggs, but it looks like only 3 of them hatched.

HEY MOM!!

I might look small....

..but check out my wing span!!

I'm gonna grow up big and strong!

And soar the skies!

Gotta love the look the older eaglet is giving his younger sibling.

Hey Mom!! He's giving me that look again!!!

MOM!!!!!!

OWL UPDATE

The Texas Barn Owls' nest box is bursting at the seams with 5 rapidly growing owlets.

Colorado's Great Horned Owls are starting to look like miniatures of their mom.

The owlets' fluffy downy feathers are being replaced by their adult feathers.

Aren't I cute?

The Great Horned Owls at CSUB are starting to make me nervous...

I wish they wouldn't stand on the edge like that!

As the owlets get ready to fledge, they practice flapping their wings a lot! Preparing for their first flight, they will run or jump up and down, while flapping their wings madly.
