BALD IS BEAUTIFUL

These two beautiful Bald Eagles are nesting in Virginia at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. You can check out their steamy history here.

NOTHING LIKE A GOOD STRETCH

First the toes...

...followed by the wings.

MYSTERY STORK

I'm wondering who the extra stork is? Perhaps one of their young from last year? A stork who was just too tired to fly? I actually had to look twice before I noticed an extra butt there!

NUMBER 5 - WILL THIS BE THE FINAL EGG?

So apparently barn owls lay between 3 - 6 eggs - could this be her last egg? Or will she lay one more?

PAPA OWL PUTS IN AN APPEARANCE

This was one of the first days I actually caught glimpses of Papa Owl. He tends to be around in the daytime, which only makes sense, since Barn Owls are mainly nocturnal.

Ooohhh...Papa Owl...

What big eyes you got!

Obviously Mama Owl is happy to see him too, as she preens him affectionately.

4 EGGS

We now have 4 eggs! Apparently, the third one was laid 2 days ago on February 23rd. Papa Owl also brought a nice juicy rodent home for Mama Owl - isn't he the sweetest? Check out the size of her talons!

THE WINDSWEPT LOOK

This stork oughta thank his lucky stars that this nest isn't in Winnipeg! He would probably get blown right off the nest. :)

BUSY BEAKS

A little bit of preening, well, actually a lot of preening, is needed to keep those feathers well oiled and healthy.

An extra beak is always helpful!

CONSPIRACY AT THE NEST?

Apparently they don't want to discuss it!

WE HAVE 2 EGGS!

We have egg number two!

LOVE IS IN THE AIR

It appears that our resident female stork in Bornheim Nest #1 has found love. :)

MEANWHILE, AT BORNHEIM STORK NEST #2...

Ever get the feeling you're being watched??

It's tough to have a strong wind blowing when you are relatively high up in the air and in the open.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Another day dawns....

A few stretches are in order to get the day started...

A little bit of nest maintenance needs to be carried out...

A little bit of preening is in order...

Near the end of the day, there's time to beak around and chatter a while...

...and think about what tomorrow may bring.

Finally, after a busy day, it's time to settle down and relax.
