Both nests (Colorado and California) of Great Horned Owls have officially fledged.
This is the youngest owlet in the brood in Colorado. She fledged a bit too soon and as a result, found herself trapped in the building below the nest box. Thankfully, an employee found her and she was taken to the Birds of Prey Foundation, where she was checked over and fed. A few days later she was strong enough to be released and was reunited with her parents. :)
When owlet rescuer returned to the site to release the little adventurer, he was able to get a photo of the other owlet. No, it's not a turkey; the owlet just has its wings spread out to make itself look large and menacing. ;)
The California Great Horned Owls have also fledged. I caught a snap of one lone owlet, but within a couple of days it too was gone.
One last photo of the whole family together. Aren't they beautiful?
